Business Monday, Naked Friday

Monday gets a bad wrap. While we celebrate Saturday and even Sunday, Monday looms like an impending dental appointment. Some have tried to circumvent this by making Sunday the start of their week – very spiritual. Perhaps in this fallen world, Monday serves as a reminder of our sinful nature – that we are broken people waiting for Friday.

I think Adam felt this way. Perhaps he had a great weekend being naked and free and then BOOM, Monday comes. Lamenting on another work week of naming animals and tending gardens, he waits for liberation (so this might not be completely theologically accurate, but you get my point). Jesus, however, is in the redemption business. If he does anything it is breathing life into that which is fallen and flawed. Maybe what today needs – what it demands – is a breath of grace. That even at our worst, He is at his best. Monday is the constant nagging of petulant child in need of patience.

Today, celebrate the God of Monday. Remember that Friday is coming. Some day, you will be naked and free. Until  then, cling to Christ, our only hope in a world of Monday.
