7 The one who conquers will have this heritage, and I will be his God and he will be my son. 8 But as for the cowardly . . . (Revelation 21:7-8a)
There is a certain courage it takes to believe in a God so hidden in our world – a mystery of spirituality that surpases what we can grasp. Only the brave can swim upstream, away from the currents of a rushing culture. Faith is difficult, and this is exactly what we want. If it didn’t take courage, we would so easily believe that it relies solely on our shoulders. Our rugged individualism would take over as we create a religion that would make Pharisees scream foul. Faith is impossible without Christ, and this is a blessed thing.
As Christ followers, we are not victims but victors. When persecuted, ridiculed, or struck, we remain confident in our God. We don’t gossip, Facebook, or complain, but merely take courage in the one that transcends earthly chaos. We then can be brave because He is brave. His courage on the cross looked like weakness, yet He was unafraid of misperception. Confident in his identity, he showed us true courage in the face of death and life.
Choose brave. Fight with the victory that is already won through Christ. The clock reads 0:00. All that’s left is the parade.
