15 As for man, his days are like grass, he flourishes like a flower of the field, 16 for the wind passes over it, and it is gone, and its place knows it no more (Psalm 103:15-16)
With the risk of stating the obvious; you will die. Life is both a marathon and a manic sprint. The things of most importance today, will fade into the eternal vacuum of obscurity.
This seems like the time to give you the “Carpe Diem” talk. That today is a treasure and your job is to cherish every fleeting moment.
But I won’t.
Instead, I urge you to rest. Yes, life is like a flower and yes your days are numbered, but a response to simply “seize the day” is not enough. The call of Christ urges us to do more than live in the present, but to live with eternity in mind and cultivate a Kingdom minded lifestyle that says while all things pass, His kingdom shall reign eternal. That while our time and life has an expiration date, His does not. He breathes the eternal into our fleeting. So yes, enjoy today with passion and purpose, but may your eyes rise to the heavens and imagine an eternal God that is above the current. May we not be so presently minded that we lose the eternal purpose we are destined for in Christ. Put today’s urgent messages and voicemails in perspective of his never-ending grace.
You will be okay – even if things are not okay. Some day your stem will be severed, but praise be to God who is making all things new.
