13 As a father shows compassion to his children, so the Lord shows compassion to those who fear him. 14 For he knows our frame; he remembers that we are dust. (Psalm 103:13-14)
You are known by God. Many of us spend years in search of who we really are. It is in our nature to self discover. Yet God, as creator, knows us better than we know ourselves. He remembers that we are dust and in this dust, he breathed life. While the idea of parents make a lot of us cringe – thinking of broken relationships and crippling hurts – we must remember how parenting is meant to be. That at its best, it guides, loves, challenges, and corrects in the natural context of life-giving relationship. Our faith will simply not work if we fail to see God as he is – father. Every action is birthed out of his identity as such. The father knows what the child needs, and we would answer prayers the same way if we knew what he knows.
There will come a point in every life where we will have to decide to trust our parent. In this moment, we look at their motivation. Is it selfish control, or life-giving compassion? Our father’s body of work is solid. Lean in on what he has already done when faced with such uncertainty. He knows you and his response is compassion. Seek him today.
