Grit

Grit – courage, fortitude, stamina, resolution

I think one word that should define our faith is ‘grit’. Following Christ for a few years has shown me that eventually the luster wears off. The honeymoon feeling experienced at the beginning has withdrawn to a more reserved daily expression. If we are not careful, our walk with God can become routine, never growing. The stories of the Bible can become so familiar that we forget the Spirit behind them. It is in these days that we must persevere with grit. Faith was never meant to be easy, and while we are not saved by what we do, we do thrive with how we express our belief in our daily routine. Some of the greatest moments in my walk have came from times when I didn’t want to engage with God. Days where I felt like I had already heard every sermon and read every parable. God blesses the humble. Unfortunately, this is where cultural Christianity stops. Many lack the grit to develop habits and instead hold the title in name only. Having an appearance of godliness, but denying its power.

May we face the day with grit. We pray that the emotions of your day would be followers and not leaders. Push through to greater intimacy with Christ.
