I will ponder the way that is blameless. Oh when will you come to me? I will walk with integrity of heart within my house; I will not set before my eyes anything that is worthless. (Psalm 101:2-3)
I’ve been reading through the Psalms in the mornings and I, like many before me, have fallen in love with it’s language. Notice the intentionality of David. “Ponder the way that is blameless”. It is not something we are naturally given to – to obey and follow the demands of a holy God. It takes continued intentional thought and action. This particular Psalm has nine different “I will” statements. To walk in the Spirit is to walk in urgency. The faith of David is not passive but proactive.
I will not set before my eyes anything that is worthless
May this be true with us. How many times have we let our gaze linger on that which is ever fleeting. This is home to us. Our nature calls out to the immediate while our soul calls us upward toward our risen King.
I will sing of steadfast love and justice; to you, O Lord, I will make music (v.1)
“I will” is a direct result of “he is”. When we know of his steadfast love and justice, we act. Not because it earns us anything, but because he is everything and has earned everything on our behalf.
Choose to fight today. Act with passion. Take comfort in his identity.
