Vigilant: keenly watchful to detect danger, ever awake, alert, as while others are sleeping or unsuspicious
And every day our heart rages. Keeping it from drowning in the unsettled passions and thrusts of a million insecurities is an active revolution. Christ makes our heart, as the core of who we are, as the highest priority. For if the heart is a spring, it is then of the utmost importance that we direct and take care. Jesus reminds us that “out of the heart, the mouth speaks” (Luke 6:45). One look at social media during the circus of political campaigns will show the dire condition of our collective hearts. Unkept hearts lead to unfiltered ramblings and vicious attacks.
The only protection against this chaos is to make Christ King of our hearts in every moment afresh. While the world unknowingly sleeps, we must fight for the integrity of our heart. We seek to actively rise above the grumbling, gossip, and gangland style attacks to something greater. Keep your heart today. Fight for a better way. Your life and family depend on it.
