16 They are not of the world, just as I am not of the world. 17 Sanctify them in the truth; your word is truth (John 17:16-17)
Your days here are numbered. Your home is here on earth until that unexpected moment of eviction. Jesus is always making us come to terms with eternity; breaking our grasp on the immediate and focusing us on our ultimate destination. To be “of” this world means to completely ignore this invitation – failing to see past today. When we come to terms with the Gospel, we come to terms with the true condition of existence.
your word is truth.
Do you believe this? With our present residence on earth, it’s ever difficult to see the forest from the trees. The truth we have is distorted, but it makes sense. It is only through grit and devotion that we can possibly stand a chance against the spirit of our age.
How are you seeking truth today and how is it shaping the meaning of today?
Pray: Your word is truth. Give us the courage to believe this. Lord help us if we ever define truth for we are limited in our knowledge and scope. We know that faith is daily work, may we be up to the task of following you despite our distractions. Equip us by your Spirit to live for today by eternity. Amen
