(Read John 16 first)
8 And when he (the helper) comes, he will convict the world concerning sin and righteousness
The conviction of the Lord is a blessing. John could easily use the word “condemn” here, but that would not be the true identity of the God we serve. In conviction through the Spirit, which every believer receives at salvation, we get ushered into a relationship where the end goal is a demeanor more like Christ. Conviction is God pulling us closer to himself and chiseling away the thoughts, ways, and actions that so easily ensnare us. He gives us a standard to live by, then equips us to meet it. Left to ourselves, we are clueless. Be careful then to listen to the conviction inside you, for in his voice is life. With each passing moment of neglected obedience, his voice becomes muted.
33b In the world you will have tribulation. But take heart; I have overcome the world.
To live is conflict. To follow Christ is war.
Yet when we meet overwhelming odds, the overwhelming victory of Christ still reigns. We are on the winning team and this is why the helper inside us can be trusted. He speaks from victory not for victory. Take heart believer and remember that today fails to have the final word. Circumstances, no matter how dire, will fade into the midst of eternity with Christ. Listen to his voice – overcome this world.
Pray: Lord we thank you for how you value a relationship with us so much, you placed your spirit inside. We now have direction in this life available through all of our trials and successes. Thank you for fighting for us and sharing your victory with us. Today, we may not feel on the winning side of eternity, but you have spoken and we can trust you. Deepen our relationship with you today and help us to hear you more clearly in the chaos of life. We love you. Thank you for loving us. Amen
