What Are You Running To?

So it’s the new year. How do you feel about that? Many take it as a fresh start – an opportunity to wipe away the past and focus on the future. This idea of not looking back is actually very Biblical:

But one thing I do: forgetting what lies behind and straining forward to what lies ahead, 14 I press on toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus. 15 Let those of us who are mature think this way.

Philippians 3:13b-15a

I tell our students not to run from something, but to run toward something. So instead of running from sin and our struggles, run to the “upward call” of Christ. What if 2016 found us with short memories of our failings and long remembrances of the finished work of Christ at the cross? The biggest regret at the end of every year is that the previous year was wasted. May we be a people who lose regret, shame, guilt in the new year, and press on with a relentless pursuit of Christ.

In the new year, what are you running to?
