I’ve been thinking a lot about risks and rewards lately. It seems to me our quality of life is directly related to the weight of risk we engage in daily, weekly, and yearly. I have long held that the more difficult a task is, the more we are set to gain. Success is not necessarily the goal. Change and experience are. It has been said that failure is the greatest of teachers.
“Heroes take risks”
I imagine Rocky would be an entirely different story if he didn’t take on the Russian or chase after Adrian. No one wants to watch a story of a guy who sits on the couch covered in a fine layer of Doritos dust. It is in risk that we find meaning.
Our faith works like this as well. It is a risk to come to church and engage in relationship with a fallen creation. It is a risk to stand on integrity when tempted to cut corners or morals at work. It is a risk to raise your kids in a way that puts Christ at the center.
Christ doesn’t care about our comfort as much as our character. Our character is forged by conflict and risk. Embrace the difficult. Take a risk.
