Leading @ Western Reserve

Leading a team of volunteers is tricky. Many days are filled with thoughts of uncertainty. Are we really moving forward? Are they energized or burnt out? Am I doing all I can do to equip them?

Leaders are always trying to get the best out of their people and take their growth as a sign of their job performance. As the team goes, so does the leader.

Pressure right?

The great thing about working for a church is the “Jesus Factor”. It’s His church, His people, His building. We here at Western Reserve are merely stewards. Sort of like those hand warmers you buy at CVS for a few bucks, we keep God’s resources warm until He needs them. This morning I was reminded of this, and instead of worrying or strategizing, I simply prayed. Leaders’ most important task may be to pray for God’s people. Through this my heart softens and I can relinquish the control I think I have. If the Gospel has taught me anything it is that the pressure is off. Jesus did it all at the cross and the Spirit does it all through His present movement. And while we will never coast to heaven, we can rest in the fact that Jesus has us.

Today, equip your “team”, whether they be people you work with or the people you go home to, by praying for them.
